Select treatment area to model
This tool is meant to model the climate impact of California biomass utilization treatments.
Begin by drawing the treatment polygon on the map, then complete the form to simulate residue handling and end-use options.
How this model works
- A polygon is selected, along with a forest treatment type and use case.
- Reference emissions (controlled burn, wildfire, and decay in the case that debris is left on the landscape) from the debris remaining on the polygon after the treatment are modeled.
- Use case emissions (emissions from collecting, processing, transporting, and using debris, along with wildfire and decay of material left on the landscape) are modeled.
- The accumulated climate forcing from each scenario is calculated and presented.
How to use this page
- Navigate the map to your treatment area and choose the polygon tool to draw the boundary. Double-click to close the shape; you can edit vertices if desired before proceeding.
- Fill out the “Select Forestry Treatment Scenario” section, including treatment type, year, and analysis horizon. The “?” icons next to each label describe the inputs.
- Specify residue assumptions (fraction piled, collection level, reference case) so the model can compare removal versus in-field outcomes.
- Choose the end-use facility. If you select “Nearest,” the hauling distance is calculated automatically; otherwise pick a preset distance or enter specifics when prompted.
- Click Submit to run the scenario. Results will populate below the form, and you can download a CSV of the outputs whenever the “Download results” button is enabled.
